Magdalena Urioste, co-founder and chair of the PRO at the time of this article written in the Fall of 2025 and now in a Sisterhood Bioregional InterWeave Story wtih bioregional friend Katy Chada from Norway in the context of the r3.O conference 2026, to be published this week. The text is offered in English and in Spanish.

The ‘Pampeanas Regenerativas Orientales’(PRO) is a group of almost 100 women whose  goal is to regenerate ourselves, our Pampa Biome, and Earth. Our toponomyc name derives from the ‘Pampas’ our region’s main Biome, and in Spanish  the feminine word for those inhabiting these latitudes is ‘pampeano/a’. So:

‘Pampeanas’, since our objective is to care for and to promote the conservation of the  Pampas Bioregion or the Pampas Plains (fertile low grasslands in southern South America that cover more thank 1,200,000 sq-km, all of Uruguay, the Argentine provinces of Buenos Aires, La Pampa, Santa Fe, Entre Rios, and Cordoba, and Brazil's Southernmost state, Rio Grande do Sul.)

‘Regenerativas’, because it is not enough to sustain our current planetary crisis, we believe  it is possible to produce healthy, energized, vital foodstuffs regenerating our ecosystems.

‘Orientales’, since it is our wish that this philosophy transcends borders so we could share  it with Argentina and Brazil who share the same biome. ‘Oriental’ is our nationality since our  territory lays on the oriental side of the Uruguayan River. Our wish is that these practices are  transmitted across with those dwellers with whom we share this biome.

The group is very heterogeneous; there are: farmers, ranchers, teachers, educators,  researchers, professors, cooks, activists, psychologists, sociologists, businesswomen,  artists, mothers, grandmothers, young students, veterinarians, agronomists, nutritionists,  etc...

Most of us are ‘Orientals’, but we have members from Brazil, from Argentina and from the  US, as well as some foreign women from all over the world who reside currently in Uruguay.

The fact that we all come from different walks of life offers a wide spectrum of voices,  thoughts, experiences, and feelings that complement each other and make this group  strong, dynamic and special. We have three annual meetings where we travel to different  parts of the country and share our vision. We share stories, we learn about cooking like our  grandmas did before with basic elements and nourishments, and we spend many, many  hours getting to know each other or the people behind the projects we visit.

Our vision is to be a leading and committed community in regeneration, highlighting the  essential role of women as designers and guardians of a sustainable future. To inspire and  transform our communities through knowledge, care, and collaboration. To create a  regenerative ecosystem that allows for balance between human beings and nature, where  women lead the care and conservation of the Pampas grasslands.

We envision our group as a reference point in the promotion of sustainable practices that  foster soil health, biodiversity, and the integral well-being of animals, plants, and  communities. We seek to empower women to play a crucial role in the regeneration of the  planet, creating a future in which all living beings coexist in harmony.

Our mission is to show others who have no idea of what regenerative practices are in  traditional farming. It is our intention that they can transition into new ways of working with  natural resources, thinking of the present and future generations’ legacy.

Through education, awareness, and collaborative work, we seek to strengthen knowledge  about the importance of natural ecosystems, empower local communities, and promote a  sustainable way of life that respects and cares for the environment. We foster the  interconnection between soil health, food, animal and human health, thus contributing to  the resilience of our ecosystem and enriching the lives of all who depend on it.

• Share stories and experiences that inspire and encourage collective learning. • Support one another to move forward with meaningful contributions. • Nurture ourselves with knowledge to build strong and sustainable partnerships. • Amplify our voices and impacts to generate positive change.

• Equip ourselves with tools and knowledge that influence the design of the present and  future of our communities.

• Elevate the role of women as a key axis in regeneration.

• Honor the holistic care of soil, water, pastures, animals, food, health, and our  communities.
